Yet another winning product from Wilkin and Sons of Tiptree, Essex. If you thought their lemon, lime and passionfruit curds were sinfully indulgent, just wait until you try this salted caramel spread…
Wilkin and Sons Tiptree Salted Caramel Spread is a real treat. It’s perfect for those long, leisurely weekend breakfasts. A freshly brewed pot of tea, some hot toast, a few pastries, a good newspaper and an assortment of spreads – there’s no better way to set yourself up for a day of taking it easy. After you’ve tried this one, we think it will be taking pride of place on your breakfast table.
Like all Wilkin and Sons products, it’s made with great care using the finest ingredients, including Maldon® Sea Salt, made just down the road from the Tiptree factory.
Many such spreads can be a little too sweet for our tastes, but this salted caramel spread is beautifully balanced. The slight saltiness is a delightful contrast to the slightly malty sweetness of the caramel. The texture is soft, creamy and very thick, but not sticky – a little like Dulce de Leche, but with a touch of salt to make things more interesting.
It’s fantastic spread on good old toast, but we think it’s even better with croissants and pastries. If you really want to indulge yourself, you could even spread it on brownies or waffles. Heat it up slightly, until it’s more fluid, and it makes the most amazing syrup for ice cream too. There are no end of things you can do with Wilkin and Sons Salted Caramel spread, if only you can resist the temptation to eat it straight out of the jar…
It’s marvellous stuff, it really is. We only wish the jar was bigger, as a hungry family could easily demolish this in a single sitting!
