Description

Here at Dalriata we’re all about Wilkin and Sons’ products. Although most people probably know them for their sweet products, such as lemon curd or salted caramel spread, that’s not the only string to their bow. They also have a huge range of savoury condiments – such as this tomato chutney right here!

Relishes and chutneys are enjoyed in many countries around the world, but this one has a definite British character. Wilkin and Sons keep it pretty simple with this tomato chutney – bursting with ripe tomatoes, of course, but with just sugar and wine vinegar added. If you’re thinking “this sounds a lot like ketchup”, you wouldn’t be far wrong. But unlike ketchup, this chutney has a chunky texture that lends itself to being spooned out of the jar and served up in big dollops. It’s an altogether more sophisticated proposition. In fact, it reminds us of a Mexican-style tomato salsa without the spiciness.

The flavour, while a little sweet, is fresher, fruitier and tangier than ketchup. It’s the perfect thing to have on the table at a barbecue if you want to surprise and delight your guests. It will liven up burgers, sausages, and especially chops and cutlets. It’s a great contrast to a strong mustard, too.

It can also serve as a delicious dip to serve up alongside snacks and nibbles such as tortilla chips, poppadoms or crudités. You can even use it in sauces and marinades. No doubt you can think of a few uses for it yourself, so why not pick some up today?
