We’re very partial to a bit of hot sauce here at Dalriata. But unfortunately the average German isn’t a big fan of all things spicy, so really tasty hot sauces can be a little tricky to get hold of. That’s why we went all the way to Belfast to bring you this very special range of delicious hot sauces, made by the one and only Blackfire. Like everything we sell, their products are of the highest quality, made with the care and pride that only comes from small, independent producers.
Belfast Redhead hot sauce is where it all started for Blackfire. The inspiration for this recipe came from the colour of founder Tim McCarthy’s daughter’s hair! All good fun, but the outcome is an outstandingly tasty hot sauce that has become their biggest seller.
In terms of heat this one’s mild, but that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in flavour. The sweetness of carrot combines with the spicy warmth of ginger and cumin, and just enough habanero chilli peppers to make things interesting. It’s tangy, fruity and deliciously moreish. Perfect to liven up roast vegetables, grilled meats, or even starchy staples like couscous. And of course, it goes great with our Clonakilty sausages…
Blackfire make their hot sauces using only top-quality ingredients which you simply won’t find in mass-market competitors. Instead of cheap, industrial vinegar, Blackfire use only cider vinegar, made by the Armagh Cider Company from local Armagh Bramley apples. And as for the chilli peppers, they grow their own! No chilli extract is used here, only fresh, mature peppers from their own production.
