You might be wondering what these sauces are doing on our site, as they’re neither British nor Irish. But our customers kept asking for them, so we got them in!

Nando’s is a chain of restaurants which originated in Johannesburg, South Africa in the 1980s, and has spread all over the world since then. Nowhere is it more popular than the UK, where it has attained such legendary status in the UK that British people have more or less adopted it as their own. In fact, we reckon that a lot of British people think Nando’s is British. It seems like every teenager loves to go for a Nando’s with their friends, and the term “cheeky Nando’s” has entered the language. Nando’s is growing in popularity in Ireland too, with at least a dozen restaurants around the country.

So what’s the secret of Nando’s success? Peri-Peri sauce! And now you can buy it right here at Dalriata.

What is Nando’s peri-peri sauce?

Peri-Peri is a variety of chilli pepper which comes from in Mozambique, right next door to South Africa. People there have used them in their cooking for centuries, and they add a tasty, spicy kick to all sorts of foods. With the addition of a little lemon juice to these small, fiery peppers, you get peri-peri sauce. It’s a simple concoction, but the result is pure magic. Peri-peri sauce will brighten up just about anything, but it works particularly well as a marinade for grilled, spatchcocked chicken. And this is exactly what made Nando’s restaurants so beloved all over the world.

But this sauce goes with so much more than just chicken. It will make almost any food more interesting. Try it with grilled fish, mix it in with fried rice, dip vegetables in it, or just douse your chips in it.

In terms of heat, Nando’s garlic sauce is about as spicy as their medium sauce – enough to make things a little interesting, but nothing too crazy. But what makes this one different is, as the name suggests, the generous quantity of garlic it contains.

If you’re serious about your hot sauce, and you want something really special, check out our Blackfire range. Maybe a Belfast Redhead or a Samson?

All Nando’s sauces are made without artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. They’re also completely vegetarian, and suitable for those on halal or kosher diets.
