Strictly speaking these sauces are neither British nor Irish, but our customers kept asking for them, so we got them in!
Nando’s is a chain of restaurants which originated in Johannesburg, South Africa, but has attained such legendary status in the UK that British people have more or less adopted it as their own. In fact, we’d wager that many folks there would tell you Nando’s is British. Going for a Nando’s with your friends has become a teenage rite of passage, and the term “cheeky Nando’s” has entered common parlance. It’s catching on in Ireland too, with at least a dozen restaurants around the country.
So what’s the secret of Nando’s success? Peri-Peri sauce! And now you can buy it right here at Dalriata.
What is Nando’s peri-peri sauce?
Peri-Peri is a type of chilli pepper originating in Mozambique. They’ve been cooking with them for hundreds of years, adding a delicious spicy to kick to all kinds of dishes. Add a little lemon juice to these small, fiery peppers and you get peri-peri sauce. This simple mixture will liven up just about anything, but it’s especially tasty as a marinade for grilled, spatchcocked chicken. And this is exactly what Nando’s restaurants serve up all over the world.
But you don’t have to limit yourself to chicken if you buy this sauce. It will liven up just about anything. Try it with grilled fish, mix it in with fried rice, dip vegetables in it, or just lash it all over your chips.
This medium sauce has enough heat to make things a little interesting, but it won’t reduce you to tears or leave your throat burning. For many people, it’s just enough. For some, it’s the first step on the long road to hot sauce addiction. Either way, it’s tasty stuff. But if you’re looking for something a little more special, check out our Blackfire range. Perhaps Hot House would be to your liking?
All Nando’s sauces are made without artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. They’re also completely vegetarian, and suitable for those on halal or kosher diets.
